WHY 90% OF ASPIRING SOCIAL IMPACT LEADERS FAIL!

Gone are the days when you expect the government to do everything for you. It’s not like it has even been any better before.

Sad but true, my fellow youths of today just want everything to be automatic for them. They expect to put in a little effort then see a magic happen overnight.

There is no easy pill anywhere.

Everything that looks great or is great requires hard work , patience and perseverance.

Social impact isn’t left out. In fact, I would say it’s harder because we are talking about causing a change here which is one of the hardest thing to do. How on earth can you change someone or something when yourself are still battling with some habits. So you see that a lot of dedication is needed.

As an aspiring social impact leader, it can become so frustrating after having tried all, it still seems like you are not making progress at all. This as a result makes you doubt yourself talk less of your family members and friends that have told you either directly or indirectly that you cannot last in this path that you have taken, they would have impressed so much how confused you are and don’t know the reality of life.

You can’t blame them because there is no result to show for it.

Results shuts people up.

Too much talking about your dreams or what you want to achieve isn’t enough and anybody’s business.

People want to see the result, only then would they begin to support you.

REASONS WHY YOU FAIL AS AN ASPIRING SOCIAL IMPACT LEADER

πŸ’₯ You are not stretching professionally: Some of you can pray for Africa, you can even talk for Africa but are you stretching yourself professionally? Identify the areas you know you are lacking in regards to the change you want to make and work towards filling those gaps. You have to stretch yourself so well that when you carry your chair to the table of decisions making, another chair would have to be removed for your sake because they have to listen to you. The truth is, the table of greatness or decision making is full so you have to have every credibility and reason why a space has to be created for you.

Stretch professionally and stop being naive.

The work in front is no child’s play at all.

πŸ’₯ You are not humble enough to volunteer: How amazing, everyone wants to start their own thing which is not bad in itself but relax. You need to learn the ropes properly. You need to know how things are being done the right way so you know better when doing yours. This reduces your chances of giving up when you start yours independently.

Drop your shoulders and VOLUNTEER wholeheartedly.

Don’t be a pain to any organisation.

They have lives to impact!

πŸ’₯Develop necessary skills: Learn every valuable skill that you know is needed for you to effectively cause a change in your society. Don’t limit yourself in any way. If you have to pay for courses, pay , you will not die. You would only become more valuable.

πŸ’₯ Leverage social media: Social media is a tool for you to use as social proof to people who don’t believe in what you are doing. Host conversations around the cause you are advocating for. Create safe spaces if need be. Create valuable and relatable content so people would become so interested in what you do and eventually spread your message farther than you think. This would be a game changer in achieving your goal as well.

Don’t be too shy for the lives you want to see changed.

πŸ’₯ Attend events related to your niche: Leave your houses. Go for conferences, seminars, workshops. Dress properly when attending. Network with people genuinely. Practice your pitch before going so that they would also want to connect with you.

Don’t take this for granted.

It does a lot more than you think.

πŸ’₯ Never stop increasing in knowledge:

Study! Study! Study!

The internet has made it so easy for us now. You can get any information you need. Keep increasing in knowledge about your niche . So that you are not stale but relevant.

You can create the world you dream of.

It’s never too late.

I’m rooting for you.

Feeding the less privileged is not sustainable?

On the 28th of May 2022, I went along with a non-profit I volunteer for called TEAK Foundations for a charity event at Bariga(Lagos) to celebrate Children's day with the children in the area. Of what use is feeding them just once and for them to be hungry tomorrow "I often thought". It feels like a waste of time. It feels like they are not being helped. I often thought that they should be empowered if they are adults so they can begin to feed themselves and for children, it would be better if a farm or food bank can be created as this would be quite sustainable.  Looking at it from this angle would make you agree with me that charity events are not sustainable but does it make them unnecessary? No, it is still very important and valid. As a non-profit, we might not be able to scrap the daily hunger but we were able to leave them with an unforgettable experience for just that day, we were able to make them not hungry for just that one moment. All it takes for a life to be ...

Feeling unmotivated?

I love God (so she claims), and I want to live my life solely for God. Yet, she finds herself being indisciplined and doing things that either waste her time or are of no value. Yes, she knows the importance of having a well-structured priority list. She isn't even sure if getting easily distracted is her problem or if she is just confused. She has a vision. She has a goal. She has positive intentions. All of her intentions are for the benefit of mankind. Yet, she finds herself still going in circles and it seems like she isn't growing or going towards the fulfillment of her vision. What would you do if you are here? Or should I say, what would be your best advice to her? My Advice. Honestly, this can happen to anybody it happens to almost everybody including your favorite people. The only reason why you haven't noticed is that they were able to still do the needful despite these things that happens to them. The key here is Self - discipline. I'm usually blown away whe...

IT’S CLOSER TO YOU THAN YOU THINK

I’m never going to have dreams! Exclaimed by a little girl who was watching the TV with her parents one beautiful afternoon. She was seeing the news report about the result from the just concluded election and the lives that were lost from the whole process. Right there, she made a decision not to be involved in anything that has to do with contributing to the society. She would rather prefer being comfortable in her own house with her family and minding her business. Many youths are like this today. You don’t want to get involved. Everything is now SCAM as it’s popularly called in Nigeria today. We no longer believe anything neither do we want to believe. We’ve come to embrace the mentality of “anything that does not concern me does not concern me” I.e we’ve so much embraced a selfish mentality as long as we have food to eat. The truth is, it isn’t our fault! The dirty stereotype the society has painted in our faces are so green in our memory that we can’t erase it even if we wa...
