I’m never going to have dreams! Exclaimed by a little girl who was watching the TV with her parents one beautiful afternoon. She was seeing the news report about the result from the just concluded election and the lives that were lost from the whole process.
Right there, she made a decision not to be involved in anything that has to do with contributing to the society. She would rather prefer being comfortable in her own house with her family and minding her business.
Many youths are like this today.
You don’t want to get involved.
Everything is now SCAM as it’s popularly called in Nigeria today.
We no longer believe anything neither do we want to believe. We’ve come to embrace the mentality of “anything that does not concern me does not concern me” I.e we’ve so much embraced a selfish mentality as long as we have food to eat.
The truth is, it isn’t our fault!
The dirty stereotype the society has painted in our faces are so green in our memory that we can’t erase it even if we want to try.
This can’t keep going on.
We are youths who are not lazy.
Youths with strength and vigour.
Youths with gifts, talents and skills.
Youths with mind-blowing ideas that would improve the present state of the community.
Selfishness is indeed ever-increasing as the order of the day!
Tell me why as a young lady who is just minding her business has to feel your presence through the rubbing of your hands on her sensitive part in the name of just greeting her?
Tell me why youths with great destinies keep being the ring leaders of the most rampant vices in our society today?
Why on earth should a loved one lose her life just because there is no enough money to pay the hospital bills.
Have you ever lived in a house regularly flooded with water and at any time collapse without your permission?
Do you know what it’s like to be married to someone of your Grandpa’s age when you are still trying to understand what menstruation is and how you can become the next world renowned Surgeon?
Have you ever wondered what your life would look like if you were not given the opportunity to education and a quality one at that.
Use dirty water for cooking , bathing and even drinking for 3days straight then maybe you might become grateful for the clean water you have.
Girls are still being raped!
Lots of children are still without quality education.
Youths are on the verge of losing their sanity because of unemployment.
Poverty still kills lots of families.
Many still don’t know there is something called a conducive environment.
Potential leaders are really being wasted.
Even if it seems like some people are rising to attend to these issues and more , it is STILL NOT ENOUGH.
There is so much work to do.
As a youth, whether you like it or not, you are the right person for this job.
This is the age where you can exercise your strength and not get tired easily.
Maximise this gift of strength that you have. Do not be the reason why so many has to keep living abnormally calling it normal.
It has become so clear that SOCIAL IMPACT has been perceived as an unrewarding work which leaves many youths with little or no interest.
THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO NOW:
- Think about how your talent can improve the life of your society either locally or globally.
- Start from where you are either by volunteering, using your social platforms or even people around you.
- Follow people who encourage the art of Social impact in one way or another.
It’s indeed closer to you than you think.
Cheers to your rising🥂
